Louisiana Eye & Laser Center Announces Expansion in Monroe, LA

Respected cataract and refractive surgeons John Cooksey, MD, and Richard Apt, MD, join Louisiana Eye & Laser at the new location

 

Alexandria, LA (January 1, 2019) – Louisiana Eye & Laser is excited to announce they have purchased a new location in Monroe to better serve northern Louisiana. The practice is located at 1310 N. 19th Street. As part of this expansion, Louisiana Eye & Laser is also excited to announce that well-respected ophthalmologists John Cooksey, MD, and Richard Apt, MD, are joining the highly trained ophthalmology and optometry team at Louisiana Eye & Laser. They will be practicing exclusively out of the Monroe location.

Dr. John Cooksey is an ophthalmologist who has been practicing for over 40 years. He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, followed by an internship at the Confederate Memorial Medical Center in Shreveport and a residency in ophthalmology at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson, LA. Dr. Cooksey served as a Flight Surgeon for the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1969. After completing his military service, he began studying ophthalmology. Following a three-year residency program, he established his private practice in Monroe in 1972. Dr. Cooksey also earned an Executive MBA in 1994 from the University of Texas.

Dr. Cooksey is a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a past Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Cooksey specializes in laser cataract surgery and is one of the few trained corneal transplant surgeons in northern Louisiana.

Dr. Richard Apt is an ophthalmologist who has been practicing for over 40 years. He graduated from the University of California Irvine School of Medicine in 1965, followed by an internship in at the University of Southern California – LAC+USC Medical Center. He also completed a residency in ophthalmology at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson and an internship in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. Apt is a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS), the California Association of Ophthalmology, and the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgical Society. He is a past Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Apt has also published several articles in respected medical journals.

Dr. Apt specializes in laser cataract surgery and refractive (LASIK) surgery.

Dr. Patrick Redmond is our primary cataract and refractive surgeon at our Monroe location.

A Louisiana native, Dr. Redmond, M.D. graduated with honors, summa cum laude, from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas followed by receiving his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA. He completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Receiving many honors for academic achievement including the prestigious Bernstein Scholarship, Dr. Redmond was selected for the Barry Uhr Memorial Prize in Comprehensive Ophthalmology Resident Research Competition.

Patrick Redmond, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in treatment of eye diseases, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. He also performs surgery of the eye including no-stitch and bladeless cataract surgery, premium lens implant surgery, LASIK, and blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery.
