What is iDESIGN Refractive Technology

Louisiana Eye & Laser Center uses the latest technological advances in eye care to provide the highest level of care possible. iDESIGN Refractive Technology is just one of the many advanced pieces of eye care technology that you will find in our offices. This technology is used to measure the refractive error that is causing blurry vision for the patient. The iDESIGN Refractive Studio is a device that accurately measures the unique refractive error in each eye. Data collected by the iDESIGN Refractive Studio is 25x more accurate than a traditional phoropter. This data is then used by the eye doctor to perform an effective LASIK procedure.

How does the iDESIGN Refractive Studio Work?

Historically refractive error has been measured using a phoropter. The iDesign Refractive Studio makes it quicker and easier for the eye doctor to measure the refractive error in each of the patient’s eyes. Five different measurements are taken with the click of a button to determine how light interacts with the eye. First the device tests how light moves inside of the eye. The device then scans the exterior surface of the eye to look for slight imperfections that may have an effect on vision clarity. These two measurements are combined and used by the ophthalmologist to provide a personalized LASIK procedure that is tailored to correct the vision in each eye individually.
